(Read the answer to the different kinds of braces first)
The ceramic braces are much less visible than other kinds of braces. The ceramic braces do not stain, but the clear elastic ties that are used to attach the wire to the braces do stain (from smoking, drinking coffee, tea or other dark liquids, tomato sauce, etc.). However, you can always call and come in if the ties stain to have me change them. White/tooth colored wires do exist to go with the ceramic braces, but currently they don't allow for the same functions as metal wires, and I rarely use them.
Ceramic braces cost more, tend to debond and break more, and are more difficult to use than metal braces. That cost is passed on to you. If you are interested in ceramic braces, we can discuss this at your initial visit.
The ceramic braces can wear the opposing teeth, so you may or may not be a candidate for them depending on your bite.
Ceramic braces can be more difficult and time consuming to remove. There is also an increased risk of damage to the tooth when they are removed.
Treatment time can be increased with ceramic braces, because of the increase in frequency of breakage, difficulty in use, and other factors.
