If you are prone to canker sores, my experience has been that while you have the braces on, you may get canker sores more frequently. In addition, the sores are more painful because of the rough feeling of the braces against them. At the visit that the braces are placed, we give you "Orabase" which you can apply to the sore. This does not make the sore heal any faster, but it numbs the sore so it doesn't hurt. The canker sores usually heal in 7-10 days. If the Orabse is not helping, I have other "over the counter" medicines that I can give you ("Brace Relief", "Zilactin"), or I can write you a prescription for "Apthasol" or "Lidex gel" which can help heal the sores faster in some people.
Ameseal Oral Lesion Relief is now available.
